While significant efforts are underway in the defense industry to address the challenges faced by adversarial use of UAVs on the battlefield, the civilian domain still remains vulnerable to increasingly capable aerial systems. The threats posed by small (Group 1 and 2) UAVs to soft targets outside of battlefield are generally little-known to the public beyond basic privacy concerns, but have already begun to manifest with attacks on numerous petrochemical facilities, nuclear power plants, sporting events, correctional facilities, airports, and gatherings of people across the US and abroad. This session focuses on real-world malicious use of drones though specific incident case studies, as well as detection and neutralization methods that are currently available or in development.
