Driven by rapid technological advances in security, customer and government interest in the appropriate use of technology to advance societal needs has increased dramatically. Moreover, the regulation of security technologies to advance the public interest and preserve human rights remains a global possibility. Security manufacturers, global distributors, and integrators can enhance their brands and differentiate themselves in the marketplace by adopting policies that reflect a strong commitment to the ethical use of security technologies.

Developed by the SIA Ethics in Security Technology Working Group, this session will offer insight into common trends found in government ethical use policies and recommendations for how businesses can adopt practical ethics polices to help them to stand-apart among competitors. Attendees will learn about the key elements of existing government guidance, such as the U.S. State Department Guidance for the Export of Security Technology, the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and the EU’s Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI, and discover how these policies may apply to business operations.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the importance of ethical use policies for security technologies and how to leverage self-regulation to enhance organizational branding.
2. Discuss common trends in government policies and recommendations for adopting ethical best practices.
3. Discover how current government regulations impact business operations.
4. Learn how to align your business strategy with the changing ethical landscape.
