The separation between information security and physical security has created an unintended gap in shared principals which, in turn, has led to different perspectives, priorities, and methodologies. Information security methodologies have continuously evolved around the concept of “trust but verify,” while physical security has been built almost entirely around trusted relationships without a verification process. The reality is that security can never exceed the scope and quality of how an organization defines, governs, and validates expected outcomes.

Learning Objectives:
1. Gain knowledge of the core differences between IT and physical security principles. audit and governance practices, and why those from physical security are becoming increasingly ineffective.
2. Understand the core elements of effective governance and how it should be applied to overcome barriers that are still pervasive within the industry.
3. Learn key steps that practitioners should take to implement governance in physical security while readying to integrate into an organizational risk portfolio.
