Smart cities are now a reality, not just in the US, but across the globe. From Dubai in the desert of the Arabian Peninsula, to Las Vegas in the US, to Singapore in Asia, smart cities are on the rise. Like the futuristic city of the 1960’s animated series the Jetsons, smart cites are filled with wonderful new possibilities. Robots powered by artificial intelligence, automated transportation systems, sensor driven services operating on the internet of things to provide a range of conveniences. Making them run smoothly is the challenge for today's integrators. Smart cities offer the possibility of greater efficiency and comfort in a safe and secure environment. Constructing communications environments to support the internet of everything requires thought and planning. This session will address issues of technology governance to ensure that smart systems are protected and able to serve their human masters without impinging on privacy and civil liberties.

Learning Objectives:
1. Define the promise and challenges of smart cities
2. Discuss how smart buildings and communication technology are critical to smart City growth and development
