The real estate industry is on the edge of a major transformation. The technology used to support efficient building operations is growing at a rapid pace through the adoption of “Internet of Things (IoT)” solutions and components, cloud-based offerings and “big data” analysis, or machine learning/artificial intelligence. In addition to these status quo agitators, today’s cyber security events are heavily influencing the approach for how real estate operators manage buildings. This presentation will provide a basic understanding of smart building automation and a backdrop for why these challenges have been difficult to solve and some general strategies and frameworks organizations can adopt along with some typical pitfalls that can be avoided.
