Cities and communities are faced with a multitude of issues including aging infrastructure, rapid urbanization, and public safety. An IoT platform for the Smart City holds the promise to improving decision making for policy makers, increasing operational efficiencies and engaging citizens. Most importantly, the goal of the Smart City is to improve livability of its citizens and businesses. By incorporating a unified framework, the city can create a single pane of glass for a real-time understanding of their cities operational characteristics. In addition, having a common platform, allows the use of analytics and AI to help policy makers with key investment and planning decisions. The goal for this session is to explain the importance of a unified framework. The creation of this “system of systems” is key to achieving this goal. We will also define the importance of modern day analytics and the use of legacy systems, modern cloud, and on premise applications to build the future of Smart Cities. Learning Objectives:

  • Formulate road maps to create a smart city organization.
  • Gauge readiness to develop and execute on a smart city
  • Have the knowledge to leverage public or partnerships to begin this process.
