The Standards Driving Biometric Adoption in Physical Security

April 10, 2018, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Sands 302 Level 1

Recent advances in identity management have mostly been linked to the advances in biometric technology. As more security systems begin to feature biometrics standards around both the technology and use of the technology must be addressed. This session will explore both the established and emerging standards considerations for the three dominant biometric modalities, fingerprint, facial recognition and eye recognition (iris and retina).

Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the business purposes of implementing a standards based approach to biometric product development and adoption including interchangeability, interoperability, choice, and risk reduction.
2. Review the biometric standards for formatting, transmission, and storage of biometric data for identity management.
3. Determine existing security standards for identity management and access control and how they are being updated for biometrics.
4. Explain privacy concerns that can influence the types of standards that are implemented in security systems.
