Interoperability: The Engine Running Safe Cities

April 12, 2018, 1:15 PM - 2:15 PM

Sands 103 Level 1

A comprehensive ‘Safe City’ security system relies on a standardized approach to connectivity and a common language for communication. Successful deployments heavily leverage the integration of multiple systems and technologies to achieve the increasingly complex expectations of expanding set of end users. The role of standards is to drive this interoperability across products spanning a variety of vendors and technology disciplines. This presentation will explore how open standards like ONVIF are part of the answer, bringing commonality to communication between disparate devices and security systems. Investigate the building  of the full-integrated, comprehensive ‘Safe City’ security system and better understand how standards are being used to bridge the gaps between brands, devices and technologies.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Review the role of interoperability in safe/smart city security deployments.
2. Recognize how standards facilitate interoperability in safe/smart city security deployments.
3. Identify how different cities/manufacturers/systems integrators are approaching safe/smart city security deployments.
