Case Study of Law Enforcement uses of Unmanned Aerial Systems

The Nevada Highway Patrol has been a pioneer in the use of UAV to investigate motor vehicle crashes. A case study will be presented showing the capabilities of UAV’s to speed up the on-scene investigation allowing roadways to be cleared faster. A comparison will be shown of the data obtained by the UAV and by a total station. Discover the different available mapping software currently available to process UAV captured data.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Interpret the data that a UAV can provide in an investigation.
2. Compare traditional crime scene documentation to UAV documentation.
3. Review the different software packages available to process and view UAV data in a usable format.
